Fine Arts

The fine arts focus of Pratt Munson promotes the examination of personal expression and concepts through various media to create and achieve art that dares and informs. Fine artists examine our culture, world, and personal existence, with Holmsian precision or generalized broad strokes, and transform them into reflective, aesthetic statements that challenge our perceptions and awareness with enticing and engaging artworks.

Whether it is jewelry, painting, drawing, printmaking, or sculpture and integrated practices, many of the skills learned in the study of fine arts offer underlying cornerstones for analysis and examination that can ignite an artist’s career. With an emphasis on problem solving, visual acuity development, craft, and critical and conceptual thinking, students are equipped with the tools to pursue their artistic endeavors with confidence.

At Pratt Munson, students will select their fine art focus at the end of their freshman year. As a sophomore, they will focus on a curriculum that begins their in-depth immersion into their chosen field of practice. Combining a rigorous studio regimen with a broad education in liberal arts and sciences, students pursue a dialogue of conceptual investigation and making.

The program is ranked first nationally in USA Today by College Factual.
