Painting
Our program intentionally embraces diverse styles and working methods, from direct observation from life and photographs to making work entirely driven by abstract ideas.
learn to express ideas effectively through visual language and studio practice
All first-year students complete the Foundation core, along with required art history and liberal arts courses, and begin the fine arts major in the fall of their second year. Continuing art history and general education coursework, second-year students take focused courses in their chosen area—painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, or jewelry. In addition to studio work, all fine arts students take departmental seminars on social, historical, and critical issues in contemporary art.
