Being Legendary: Kent Monkman β†’ Being Legendary is a collection of work by the artist Kent Monkman, where he embodies Miss Chief Eagle Testickle. Miss Chief is used as a helpful tool to deliver the hard truths of colonial history. The book and exhibition is broken up into three parts; We Have Always Been Here, Colonial Interruption and Our Way Forward. He frames the damage during the colonial period as devastating, but also as a relatively short blip in the long timeline of Indigenous presence on Turtle Island. Monkman has elevated the voices of indigenous leaders to continue traditions and storytelling since it was once illegal.
